Memorial Scholarship reached to 78 young people
The education scholarship given on behalf of the late Doğan Turhan, the philanthropist from Izmir, the founder of one of Turkey's largest transportation companies, made the dreams of 78 young people come true in 8 years. Taking advantage of the scholarship opportunity given to Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Logistics Management students by the Turhan Family, the young people found the opportunity to complete their university education easily and reached their dreams. Doğan Turhan's son, Engin Turhan, Chairman of the Board of Istanbul Ekspres, attended the ‘Management of Logistics Operations’ course and shared his knowledge and experience with the students and answered the questions that young people were wondering about.

Upon the death of Doğan Turhan, who made significant contributions to the development of Turkey in the field of logistics, his wife Berrin Turhan and his sons Engin and Ersin Turhan took action to keep the name of the deceased Doğan Turhan alive. Deciding to touch the lives of students by granting a scholarship on behalf of Doğan Turhan, the family started to support IUE Faculty of Business Administration, Department of Logistics Management students.
SCHOLARSHIPS WILL CONTINUE
Turhan Family experienced great sadness with the death of Berrin Turhan in 2020. Engin and Ersin Turhan, who lost their parents, continued their scholarship campaign and supported 78 students so far. IUE Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Aşkar, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Kentmen Çin, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration Prof. Dr. Burcu Güneri Çangarlı and academic also took a close interest in Turhan’s visit and exchanged views on the scholarship studies to be continued in the upcoming period.
SUCH A NICE FEELING
Stating that he was both happy and excited to meet young people in the course, Turhan emphasized that he would visit the university again at the first opportunity. Turhan said, “My father was a person who attached great importance to education and took a close interest in young people. We thought a lot as a family and decided that the best way to keep his name alive would be to give a scholarship. Glad we did so. We lost my father at the age of 78. In the 8 years after my father's death, the number of students we have given scholarships has reached 78. I remember the first scholarship students. We were very excited that day too. They have now graduated and are working in important companies. We continue to communicate with the students for whom we provided scholarship support, and we meet on special days. Could there be a better feeling than this? We will continue to support young people by providing scholarships and pave the way for their educational journeys by touching their lives.”
THEY USED THIS OPPORTUNITY VERY WELL
Prof. Dr. Özgür Özpeynirci, Head of IUE Department of Logistics Management said, “The scholarship given in the name of the late Doğan Turhan has made the lives of many of our students easier so far. It is a great chance for us as a department to see the support of the Turhan Family and to know that they provide support to us in every subject, not just as a scholarship. Many of the students who have received scholarships so far have used this opportunity very well. They had many success stories. I believe that young people who are currently studying at our university will also write new success stories after they graduate. I would like to thank Turhan Family very much and hope that this cooperation will continue to increase in the coming period.”
